2020 Norwood Youth Softball Season UPDATE
We have great news - the Town has decided to permit youth sports to begin practice in Phase 2 of the state's "re-opening" plan. The Town did not attach a date to Phase 2. Norwood will release Phase 3 guidelines in the next few weeks.
The town asks the following for Phase 2 youth sports practices:
Limit groups to 10 and under
All groups should practice social distancing
No social gatherings
Norwood Youth Softball will also ask the following:
Players should wash hands thoroughly before and after practice
Absolutely no sharing of equipment
Coaches will limit practice activities to drills that allow for easy social distancing, such as batting practice, and will not do drills that have the girls standing in line.
Thanks you for everyone's patience and support through this trying time. Before long, our kids will be out on the fields.
Coaches will be in touch with their teams over the next week.

Norwood Youth Softball UPDATE
Norwood Youth Softball Families,

We wanted to give you an update on our Spring and Summer 2020 Seasons.  The NYS Board met on Monday, April 20 to discuss our upcoming season.  We maintain our commitment to doing everything in our power to give our girls softball this spring and summer.  Also, we want to let everyone know Summer Softball Registration is OPEN.  Click here to find out more and to register:

NYS is in contact with Town Officials and with our fellow members of the spring Norfolk County Softball League (NCSL) and Hockomock Girls Summer Softball League (summer).  Both leagues share our desire to give our kids softball games in 2020.  We are developing a COVID-19 mitigation plan for our spring NCSL season and for our Mini and Junior Mustangs programs.  We have also had discussions with other spring youth sports leagues across town to gauge their plans for the spring season.  The Norwood Youth Softball Board is working overtime in an effort to get out on the field this spring.

We are unsure if the Governor’s school building closure impacts our spring season.  We play summer softball when school buildings are closed and fall softball on weekends - so closed school buildings may or may not impact us.

For some time we have been looking at the end of May/beginning of June for a realistic start to the spring softball season.  This timeframe is approximately 6 weeks away from today (April 24).  We are monitoring the Governor’s actions related to relaxing social distancing guidelines and group gatherings as it relates importantly to our league.  Keep in mind that we have more flexibility than some of the other spring leagues in town as we have fewer towns and fewer teams.

Lastly, I urge everyone interested to register for summer softball.  No money is due for summer at this time.

Thank you for everyone’s patience and understanding.

2020 Norwood Youth Softball and COVID-19

We wanted to reach out and tell our Norwood Youth Softball families where we stand r.e. spring and summer softball this season.

We are monitoring the COVID-19 situation closely and we are in contact with our town officials as it relates to our league.  We are also in discussions with Norfolk County Softball League (NCSL) and Hockomock Summer Softball League as to the direction of our spring and summer seasons.

Our spring season was supposed to begin the last weekend in April, but as you know the Governor's Executive Order to close schools and extend group gathering restrictions until at least May 4 prohibits us starting as planned.

We are planning on having a softball season this spring.  We may have to abbreviate our spring season, but right now Norwood Youth Softball is committed to spring and summer softball.  We are working with the NCSL to determine a tentative start date later than our original April 28 opening day.  The Hockomock Girls Summer Softball League (HGSSL) start date will likely be delayed due to the MIAA extending high school spring sports through June 27.  The HGSSL expects to play a full season.

A major issue for Norwood Youth Softball and the Norfolk County League, of course, is whether or not the Governor extends his Order past May 4.  We are getting much of our "behind the scenes" work done now so as a league we can hit the ground running when we can.    If the Governor extends his order past May 4, we will re-evaluate the situation and be in touch.

Thank you for everyone's patience and understanding as we navigate this extraordinary and extremely fluid situation.
